Why do you need an ELD?

Under the FMCSA’s ELD rules published on December 16, 2015, fleets who were using paper logs need to have an approved ELD  like the EZ-ELD installed in all vehicles NOW. (This became law on December 18, 2017.)

All drivers who were required to keep a Record of Duty Status (RODS) MUST now use an ELD to show compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) rules.

An extended deadline of December 2019 applies to those who have recently installed an EOBR or AOBRD.

Unlike these earlier devices, the ELD synchronizes with a vehicle’s engine to capture power status, motion status, miles driven and engine hours. This means it can keep a comprehensive record of driving time, ensuring compliance with HOS laws.
